Ryan Cross talking about how the bass was a lot cooler than the chello. "I have to be in touch with myself, myself being the instrument... which becomes you.. being in touch with thís"
Plato: we are rational beings, intellectual beings, thinking beings.
Descartes: we are a thinking thing, a subject, standing over and against the world, disengaged from the society, the body, from tradition and history, total disengagement
"When you& #39;ve got the skill, the last thing that you want is to be thinking about or rationally analysing the activity that you& #39;re involved in"

"It& #39;s so much in his body, it is like a martial art, like a dance"
Hubert Dreyfus talking about how he was up against the technologists that claimed to be able to create AI.

Even the autonomous car that they claimed they have is *still* not there - not without all of the same problems that Dreyfus already pointed out back then.
Haugeland: the difference between human beings and machines: basically: "computers don& #39;t give a damn!"
Sometimes I& #39;m listening to a recording and saying O man, did I play that? In a good way, you know? And other times I hear myself and think: O man... did I play that?
"I look what he does and saw how to do it. Teacher doesn& #39;t teach you anything. Sawdust. I was cleaning up sawdust, for a couple of years".
A meaningful existence picks you out - because nobody else would understand the complex hiearchies of meaning that only you understand.
He doesn& #39;t look at anything. He has this & #39;glazing& #39; look - He& #39;s ready to be drawn into anything that is calling him to act on the moment.
They& #39;re doing what they think they ought to be doing, and it is always a disaster.

....I don& #39;t have to rely on what I know, when I am in tune with the others I can come up with anything on the spot.
Taylor Carman: The authentic person has a spontaneity that you don& #39;t get if you only fall back on rules, principles, procedures, generic formulas for how to think, how to act, how to be.
