(1) I’ll start with a film that inspired my dissertation. It has its problems but the fact that it uses 10 languages (including 4 indigenous ones) and indigenous actors makes it a must see. A story about colonialism/exploration in the Amazon: Embrace of the Serpent!
(2) The Ambassadors is a painting that is very special to me because I remember spending 2 days with my dad when I was 8 exploring the National Gallery and this painting (it’s size and beauty) stayed with me forever and probably inspired me to go into history/art history!
(3) I struggled relating to my Latin American roots and when I decided to do Spanish Alevel I was told I wouldn’t get a good grade because native speakers never do. Laura Esquivel’s Como Agua Para Chocolate was the first book I read in Spanish and it filled me with joy and pride!
(4) Could this thread really go on without my main gal Jane Austen? No. I read Pride and Prejudice when I was 14. I remember being in WHSmith having won £20 worth of vouchers at school and decided to buy my first copy of Pride and Prejudice, that’s where my love for her started!
