Activists in @freesafelegal have always, always, stood in solidarity with us in NI. Solidarity isn't an investment you expect to get a return on. It's support - emotional and practical. Working under different laws with a lot of the same problems we held each other up.
Solidarity takes many forms. It isn't all about turning up at a protest or march, they did that too. It's about the encouragement, the taking on of tasks, sharing knowledge and skills, and in this case making sure people get access to abortion through practical networks.
ARC was decimated by the referendum, everyone was exhausted and the people who came on for the campaign in Jan 2018 were gone by June. The activists who kept going, and those who have returned since, have shown solidarity that is beyond measure - because it can't be measured.
Tbh I feel over recognised for what I did in repeal, proportionately. And the thanks that poured in from Gibraltar for supporting their rally, from Malta for sharing info and research, from the IoM for joining in their online actions.
But it isn't about proportionality.
The impact of solidarity can only really be known by the people on the receiving end. Thank you to @freesafelegal for caring about our struggle, for helping however you can even when it puts you at risk, for listening, for fundraising, for including us, for friendship, for solidarity.
