🇬🇾🇬🇾🇬🇾 Happy Guyanese Independence Day to all my fellow Guyanese people! 🇬🇾🇬🇾🇬🇾

Here’s a little thread with some cool facts about Guyana, none of the photos are my own 😊
Guyana is found in the north of South America and means “Land of many waters” as is visibly evident if you’ve ever been. Streams, rivers, trenches are in abundance
On the theme of rivers, the largest - the Essequibo river is some 600 miles long (compared to 215 for the River Thames) and at its mouth it’s some 21 miles wide!
Guyana is home to Kaiteur Falls -the worlds largest single drop waterfall measuring 226m/741ft at its longest drop. It’s just over 4x the size of Niagra Falls in comparison...
Along those waters you may be lucky enough to find some of these rare species of wildlife...
The Giant Anaconda, averaging around 17 feet with some reaching 30 feet these are snakes you don’t wish to get near
The Giant River Otter is also native to Guyana. As captured in the pictures they have been known to fight and eat Caiman!
The Araprima is the world’s largest species of freshwater scaled fish and you may be lucky to find this too in Guyana however don’t expect to be able to carry it by yourself...
The Jaguar - the largest species of big cat and the Capybara - the largest rodent in the world are also native closer towards the Amazon river
Note- the Amazon doesn’t flow directly through Guyana but the Amazon Basin is and its tributaries feed into it
Guyana is home to one of the biggest species of Eagle - the Harpy Eagle. Extremely rare but just massive. Its wingspan can reach up to 6’6” (2m)
Rounding up the animal portion of this thread with the Giant Anteater and the Canje Pheasant (or Hoatzin) our National Bird. Notes ke for their bright face and their chicks having claws on two of their wing digits
You may have heard of Demerara Sugar, this originated in Demerara, Guyana. This refined sugar is exported all over the world
We export many natural minerals too, Bauxite (TL), Manganese (TR), Diamond (BL) and Gold (BR)
