The Chinese Belt and Road initiative is a recreation of the old silk road. The old silk road was the hub of trade and commerce and all the countries along the route were consequently prosperous as a result of increased trade.

The idea of the BRI is to recreate this route in the modern times to boost trade and investments among participating countries.
