Even if there's some truth in DC's charge that this story is being ruthlessly and aggressively weaponised by opponents, it's hard to feel sympathetic to him.

It's also why the giggling over that civil service tweet was so misguided and why we shouldn't applaud BBC journalists who break norms of neutrality just because we agree with what the say.

And as @slatestarcodex says so well in that post, it's a good argument for not being hostile and mean-spirited on social media

It has become distilled in my head to "Promote the norms by which you wish to be judged".
