A thread of why Jacinda Ardern is an incredible leader and role model/all round amazing human being
She is and became the youngest living prime minister in the world, at just 37 years old.
She ran a country being the PREGNANT and gave birth while in office (thus making her the second world leader to give birth in office in history)
While in office she dealt with the Christchurch Mosque shootings in the most logical and compassionate way possible. Talking to the families of the victims saying “We cannot know your grief, but we can walk with you at every stage.”
Following, she visited the mosque to talk to and comfort families and leaders in the Muslim community. “You have our love and our support. You have it now, you have it for the coming days, you have it for the coming weeks, you have it because this is your home. Al salam Alaikum.”
Directly after the terrorist attack she said
“I can tell you one thing right now, our gun laws will change.” And did so, restricting gun laws less than a week later.
She announced: “Cabinet agreed to overhaul the law when it met on Monday, 72 hours after the horrific terrorism act in Christchurch. Now, six days after this attack, we are announcing a ban on all military style semi-automatics and assault rifles in New Zealand,”
During the Zero Carbon Bill talks at the United Nations and Pacific Islands Forum she “decried a lack of global action on climate change.”
She banned plastic bags based on letters she received from children and teenagers concerned about the issues, in order to help fight climate change.
She, along with Dr Ashley Bloomfield (another kiwi legend) and the rest of the government/health board have effectively contained Covid-19 during this current crisis, creating a model system that other countries have based their levels off.
She, along with Dr Bloomfield, helped flatten the curve, managing to stop a rise in cases causing a larger outbreak (and as of now, New Zealand has had many days with 0 cases).
Jacinda, Bloomfield, her ministers and public sector bosses, took a 20 per cent pay cut during the Covid-19 crisis that would last for 6 months. This was in order to show support for workers and to put money that was being lost back into the economy.
She became the first New Zealand Prime Minister to march in a pride parade and she is very open about her support for the LGBTQIA+ community.
She introduced “fees free” into government, allowing students studying in tertiary education to have their first year of uni free, eventually wanting to make three years free by 2024. Following this, she also wants to increase student allowances by $50 per week.
She passed a bill to decriminalise abortion in New Zealand.

“The reform bill, issued by Jacinda Ardern's government, means that a woman no longer has to be assessed by a health practitioner for mental or physical wellbeing before 20 weeks.”
She’s an all round lovely human being, visiting schools and talking to our nation about how to be good role models, how to lead, to be kind.
Obviously everyone has their flaws and she is a politician, so not everyone is going to agree with these. However, it needs to be said that she is actually doing incredible. I will add more to this thread when I find more things or she does something new.
Feel free to comment and add things I’ve missed or your encounters with her (especially those kiwis who have met her before).
She’s chill
