Just read a thread on Titanic so fucking stupid it's made me weekend-angry again
Not the one I RT'd, a stupid one by an idiot who clearly watched the film once and missed the point of it completely
There weren't actually thousands of large pieces of debris floating about after the Titanic sank. A lot of deckchairs, but not a lot that could get you fully out of the water. This is pretty disrespectful to the 1,500 people who died https://twitter.com/cmclymer/status/1264775967727288322?s=20
As Jack wasn't wearing a lifejacket, the best thing he could do was hang on to something floating, and he might as well do that close to the person he loves. Take your toxic masculinity bullshit and shove it up your arse
"Jack is to blame for Jack's death" - the Titanic sinking really happened, 1,500 people actually died, not a single one of them was at fault. Twat
It took no more than 20 minutes for almost everyone to freeze to death in the water. In unimaginable fear and panic and with their faculties rapidly shutting down. Fucking hell.
I don't want to spend the rest of my Titanic-loving life having to answer stupid fucking questions like "well why didn't they take turns lying on the large piece of oak wall panelling" for people who might just think about it for 15 fucking minutes
15 minutes being about the time you have to live once you're submerged in 0-degree water
The whole point of Titanic is to tell a tragic true story as well as possible. The fictional central characters are a plot device, their romance is a plot device. Their staying on board to the end and one of them dying is a plot device.
The fact that Rose had plenty of chances to survive and Jack didn't is fully meant to highlight the real class differences of the time and the greater tragedy in that. It's the whole fucking point. If you missed that, watch the film again or stfu about it
I've seen nearly all films about Titanic (notable exceptions are the Nazi one and the Julian Fellowes one). 1997 is the best. Mostly for the hyper-real sets, but also for the fictional story that highlights all the real-life characters and engages you with what really happened
I'll shut up about it now. Just know it's a perfect film and you will get blocked for slating it
