Did @ShamikaRavi, former member of PM’s economic advisory council, plagiarize her @IndianExpress opinion piece from Nobel Laureate Paul Romer’s paper, ‘Roadmap to responsibly reopen America’ as noticed first by @richard49step. Fact-check Thread

Shocking to find 24% of Shamika Ravi’s text matches Paul Romer’s paper VERBATIM with very basic edits like changing America to India and Americans to Indians. Archive link: https://archive.is/2hQMR 2/n
Here are a few more screenshots to show the extent of plagiarism detected. There are lots more screenshots as the similarity is a whopping 24% of 1043 words! Link to Romer’s paper

As if this was not enough, @nit_set pointed out that other parts of her article were similar to economist Karthik Muralidharan’s work 4/n https://twitter.com/nit_set/status/1264869631228960773
So it turned out that another 9% is similar to Karthik Muralidharan’s piece. Basically the numbers and calculations were heavily ‘inspired’ 5/n
This was subsequently credited after being pointed out. Apology to the reader? What’s that? 6/n https://twitter.com/nit_set/status/1265153849016201221
In any other place such blatant plagiarism and academic dishonesty would have serious consequences but I suppose here ‘sab chalta hai’.
