a poll by a self-proclaimed shipper, who considers the word fujoshi problematic bc it's derogatory to them and has gender-biased kanji and a nuance of gay discrimination:
BL fans! Would you like to continue to call yourself fujoshi?
76.6% said yes (④ to see its poll result)
She also said, "I'm a newcomer to this community with its long history. But it may be time to eliminate such a problematic word regardless of the feeling of those who're attached to it."
There're many fujoshis pointing out her limited knowledge of the word's history and usage.
"Experienced fujoshi would understand it's not such simple bc this word has two-sided usage of empowerment and derogatoryness. To the best of my experience, '腐ってる' (lit. rotten) first spread broadly with the meaning of 'get worn out for creation'…"
"and thus 'self-deprecating humor and passion for creation.' According to my impression, a biased usage of derogating a taste for abnormal creation has come later."
A gay novelist criticized the shipper.
"I think 腐 means self-reproach on making minorities entertainment for them"
"I feel it's rather thick-skinned to delete this kanji character. And, why didn't you appeal to gay people for the poll when you problematize the word because of consideration for gay people?"
Her reply, "There's your opinion while there're other gay people problematizing 腐"
"Thick-skinned? BL fans are both participants and victims in discrimination. Victims accusing now. Such a misogynist. I'll block you."
