18 years ago today Eminem released his third album The Eminem Show under the Aftermath Entertainment, Interscope Records and Shady Records label.
The release was originally scheduled to be on June 4, 2002 but due to bootlegging of the album it was released on May 26, 2002.

In this album Eminem takes a more predominant production role with most of it being self-produced. Dr. Dre is the album's executive producer.

Regarding the concept of the album, Eminem explains:
"The concept 4 The Eminem Show was inspired by the Truman Show (1998) because my life felt like it was becoming a circus around that time. I felt like I was always being watched. Basically Jim Carrey wrote my album." .
On February 11, 2020 Jim Carrey gave an interview for the British Talk Show host Lorraine, when talking about his work inspiring others he revealed that Eminem told him he was inspired by yet another of his movies, Man On The Moon (1999). The movie inspired the cover of the album

The album features guest appearances from Dr. Dre, D12, Obie Trice, Nate Dogg and Hailie Jade, Eminem's daughter.
The album incorporates a heavier use of rap rock, hip hop and political hip hop genre. The themes of the album are based on Eminem's prominence in hip hop culture and the subsequent jealously towards him, his personal thoughts on success and the effects on his personal life.
He also talks about his personal thoughts on American Politics including references to 9/11, Osama Bin Laden, President George W. Bush, the war on terror and censorship.
The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 and stood there for 5 consecutive weeks. It became the first album in history to the top charts with only one sales day counting toward its first week availability. It sold 285k copies in one day (in the US)
It sold over 1.3 million copies in its second week in the US, where it registered a full week sales.
It also topped the UK charts for 5 consecutive weeks.

It has now sold more than 27 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best selling albums of all time.
On March 7, 2011, the album was certified Diamond by The Recording Industry Association Of America (RIAA).

Eminem's daughter Hailie Jade won a Guinness World Record for being the youngest performer, aged 6 years old to be credited with a R&B/Hip Hop hit on the track "My Dad's Gone Crazy".
On the song Cleanin' Out My Closet the engineer had muted the snare for some reason and you can hear Eminem asking "where's my snare? I have no snare in my headphones" and he decided to left it on the song.
