THREAD: highlights from new @IpsosMORIScot poll for @BBCScotlandNews (1/5)
Leader ratings:
•82% of Scots say Nicola Sturgeon has handled the coronavirus outbreak well
•Just 30% say the same of Boris Johnson
Views on government communications (2/5):
• 86% feel the Scottish Government’s messages have been clear
• Scots are more critical of the UK Government’s messaging – more say it’s been unclear than clear (NB poll was taken from 14-20 May, so well before Dominic Cummings row)
Lockdown restrictions (3/5):
🔹7 in 10 Scots say restrictions were introduced too late
🔹And we’re cautious about moving too quickly out of lockdown
🔹8 in 10 support restrictions being lifted in Scotland at a different time to rest of UK if @scotgov believes that is necessary
Nervousness about work and schools resuming (4/5):
- Scots are divided on whether people who can't work from home should be permitted to return to work
- Three quarters of those with school age children would feel uncomfortable sending their children to school in June
Restrictions for people aged 70+ (5/5):
- A majority of young people say that those aged 70+ should be required to stay at home after lockdown restrictions have been lifted for other age groups
- But older people don't agree! 2 in 3 of those aged 55+ are opposed to this
