/ On Cummings, I think there are 2 stories. The first - a senior advisor might have broken lockdown guidance. If true (it still seems slightly unclear), that is obviously something people are irritated by. It's valid to be angered by that and want questions answered, etc.
/The less reported Cummings story is not that he might have breached the guidance, but that large parts of the media/political class (who hate his guts politically), have seized on what were essentially rumours (some false, e.g. 'second trip to Durham'), to whip up mob outrage.
/At least 1 senior MP, and many commentators, *praised* roaming mobs of furious people for gathering outside a man's family house, partly on the basis of seemingly FALSE stories (E.g., 'second trip to Durham' that appears never to have happened). The media spread these stories.
It seems Cummings wasn't 'investigated by police' as claimed and didn't 'make a second trip to Durham' (headline story in anti-Cummings papers). Angry people literally took to the streets partly on the basis of these falsehoods, and these ppl were *praised* by an MP/ commentators
/This isn't to say that there aren't many people who are genuinely fed up with perceived hypocrisy by Cummings. That seems fair to me (if there was any, still find it hard to be sure). But there's no doubt this story has been weaponised in a shameful way for ideological reasons
