Concerning Fraudulent URLs

You have seen different posts or BCs sent containing some URLs that are fraudulent. One of them is that which always says a multinational corporation is offering something nice.

Most times the URL contains the name of the company they claim to be.
Seeing this sugar coated message, post or bc most people just click on the link. Some click on it because they see the name of the company they trusted in the link.

Most often the links direct you to a fictitious site where your data can be easily stolen.
People shorten long URLs by using http://bit.ly  or http://tinyurl.com  this is because of so many reasons among which is to make their link easily identified.

However, fraudsters use this kind of method to change their fraudulent link to look genuine.
So, for example a fraudulent link can be changed to Shoprite something and they will make it look genuine to victims as though the link is from Shop rite.

This is bait. Don't fall for it.

As much as we always advice not to click on suspicious looking links we also know some links were shortened for certain good reasons.

So, I advise you copy such link and paste on a URL extension site such as https://urlex.org

With that you can know the original site
That still calls for caution.

So it is advised that you install Web of Trust on your PC. WoT is an extension that operates on Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox etc.

WoT reveals URLs and links reliability. It shows Green for trusted sites. Yellow for proceed with caution...
...Red signals to avoid the site entirely.

Like I always say, use your common sense online. Don't just click every link. We will talk about cookies and personal data later.

Stay safe online!
