On 20/5/20 @nspcc gave evidence to @inquiryCSA @ the #ReligiousOrganisationsandSettings hearing. It was asked its position on #MandatoryReporting & again rolled out its unviable proposal (not #MR) that mistakenly purports to provide better safety to a small number of children /1
The @NSPCC proposal is for posh and poor kids at settings with beds. If it worked it would be safeguarding apartheid driven by issues that have nothing to do with safeguarding as this thread evidences in later links. Here's a redesign of your strapline to consider @NSPCC. /2
On 9/7/14 the NGO made its first announcement about #MR without any accompanying media statement | @mrjamesob @LBC 9/7/14 discusses @NSPCC #MR 'policy change' with Mandate Now, except it's the status quo in new clothes | The @NSPCC hologram had begun /3 https://audioboom.com/posts/2332477-james-o-brien-lbc-9-7-14-discusses-the-alleged-policy-change-on-mr-by-nspcc-except-it-s-the?utm_campaign=detailpage&utm_content=retweet&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter
It's submission prompted this Observer piece.

@educationgovuk has since dropped Duty to Act but in something close to Labrador loyalty @NSPCC continues with an evolving variation of it, never quite sure of its direction. But where is the evidence to support it?

A: nowhere.
Almudena Lara (formerly DfE) appeared for @NSPCC during @inquiryCSA #MRseminar 2 + the #ResidentialSchools strand. The unworkable ‘failing to report known abuse in closed settings’ was again peddled but with it the credibility of the NGO vaporised. Trustees, take note /7
Yet in 2015 @NSPCC was misinforming a seminar of ‘professionals’ (what are they?) and also us at a meeting in chambers in Gray’s Inn, that mandatory reporting existed. So what's prompted it to so suddenly want anything but #MR? Any answers @PeterWanless (also formerly of DfE) /8
During #ReligiousOrganisationsandSettings we heard about @theCPSU from Christian McMullen of NSPCC. This is another part of the NGO that until recently was convinced #MR existed. Its error was raised in the HoL during an abuse in football debate /9 http://mandatenow.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/Summary-FINAL.pdf
The CPSU endorsed an @FA policy that was legally wrong. Once again what changed @NSPCC? Mr Noyes’ reply to a question about #MR is below. Does anyone understand where he landed? On the matter of ChildLine at P76 line 17-20 he alludes to it being impacted by #MR. This is wrong /10
Amend 43 contained an excellent clause to account for services such as ChildLine which we retained in our submission. See Para 7 extract from our proposed legislation http://mandatenow.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/MR-Submission-DRAFT-LEGISLATION-061016.pdf Mr Noyes' concern, which was absent of merit, passed unnoticed by counsel /11
Mr Noyes commented on the inertia of @NSPCC trustees to make a decision on #MR (P78 lines 16-20 of transcript, see 10) which may perhaps be because they're unfamiliar or unsighted from the empirical evidence. EWS lag #RoW. Academics cannot comprehend UK or @NSPCC #MR position /12
Here's a skerrick of data to get you started (i) http://mandatenow.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/professor-ben-mathews-presentation-1.pdf. @NSPCC is doing a Nelson on #MR. Many wonder what is happening at the charity. Perhaps too many political considerations are getting in the way of protecting children. Something is amiss @peterwanless /13
Here's Part (ii) http://mandatenow.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/professor-ben-mathews-presentation-2.pdf. Govt looks set to present counterfeit #MR designed uniquely for E+W and therefore unevidenced. Cue @NSPCC to support the position, Govt will have nothing else after all. It could resemble two drunks propping each other up #MR /14
As Trustees of @NSPCC we hope you find this informative - @neilberkett @jobegent9 @pippagough @tomtoumazis @clembrohier @proftanya @andychariots @crossbridgeview (please would you see Takek Khlat is given this. Thank you.) @brendam24021661 /16
PS. Here are takeaways from *1987* when #MR was extended to education in NSW from the UK discretionary reporting model. First is data for the profession that was *expected* to report, then extracts from 1989 article which mined the data. Stick with evidence @NSPCC. /End
