In the past, when I heard stories about pastors who dishonored their positions and roles, I would get so angry and demand for their heads. My anger was not wrong but my need for vengeance was— I spent a lot of time studying how the Lord judged the wicked shepherds of Israel
and the type of language He used. He alone can judge in righteousness and truth. My role as an intercessor is to bring the wicked leaders before Him and ask Him to hold them accountable for their actions and deal with them how He wants
and because He is a just and true God, He will sort them out. With a bit more understanding, when I hear these stories, my heart burns with compassion for the victims. I care less about the stupidity of pastors and more about the people they mistreated.
From personal experience, a church who cares about their brand and image will do everything in their power to protect and cover their pastors and leaders. I learned to spend less time huffing and puffing and more time asking God to help me move past the pain.
What happens if you never get an apology or the person isn’t asked to step down? Do you spend your life holding a witch hunt? No. At some point, you have to hand everything over to God. It may take a year or five years, but He will recompense His children.
There’s a place for turning to the natural laws of justice as we saw with Bukola and Biodun but ultimately, if it is done from a place of vengeance, it will fall flat on its face. The souls who have been lost as a result of a leader’s wickedness matter.
The young men and women who have been hurt by church need to be loved, counseled and restored. It’s not about getting them back in church— it’s about ensuring they don’t view God through blurred lenses. God is not man and man is not God.
When a pastor hurts people under his watch, there’s a likelihood that they may start to think, ‘well if this pastor can do this, maybe God isn’t really who I imagined Him to be.’ No. This is a lie from the devil. God is good
If a leader acts wickedly, he was not influenced by the Holy Spirit; he was influenced by the devil and he allowed himself to fall into sin. Let’s be absolutely clear about this truth. I have a lot to say about this issue but I’ll leave it here.
