I've been thinking about this a lot. the degree of incompetence and bad leadership seems pretty damning. It's hard to tell how history will judge the PM with a bit of time and clarity but the first draft suggests it's not looking good https://www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/news/three-weeks-of-dither-and-delay-on-coronavirus-that-cost-thousands-of-british-lives-05sjvwv7g
The tragic combination of having a PM who's a libertarian at heart, an optimist with a strong desire to be liked, but also quite lazy - when a pandemic hits. For all the talk of 'populists' doing badly under covid, Bojo is a liberal Tory, like many Brexit leaders
In contrast Orban faced the catastrophe successfully because, as a conservative, he ultimately sees the world as filled with outside threats. Borders work and matter, if your country sits at the edge of a vast steppe which has brought forth unimaginable horrors in the past
I don't know how much this is just the PM we have or deeper problems with the British state. I wanted Hunt as leader because I thought BJ was totaly unsuitable for the role but politics is a popularity contest
