Michael Gove told @KayBurley just now that when Dominic Cummings drove to Barnard Castle on the 14th April the rules allowed people to drive for exercise but that’s not the case. The rules were relaxed in mid-May.
He cited Police guidance which suggested that officers couldn’t legally stop people driving for a walk, but at the time the government’s guidance was that you should not drive for exercise. That was relaxed in the middle of May.
This might seem like a small point but the bigger issue is that this creates confusion over the guidance and scientists warn that could undermine people’s adherence to it. There’s no evidence to show that’s happening as yet though.
