In the past two days, KOT has kinda shown how most of us don't understand brands.
Yesterday we saw how guys don't understand Coca-cola as a brand where they're going, who they are communicating to, and what they stand for. 1/
Hence why guys deemed from a certain side of Twitter were strong-arming the brand to use a kid in their communications and when that failed starting to force them to sponsor her. This showed how most of you don't know about CSR work brands do and responsibility regulations 2/
Today with Marini we see how the side deemed 'Cool on Twitter' also kinda doesn't understand brands and or reasons for ads. Marini had already done the cliche ads you're expecting I think 2 years ago, it was successful cause most people were talking about it 3/
The brand is young and bold and it echoes from the owner; Michelle (rumor blogs have made sure we know her). Young bold brands don't have the time and money to communicate in a litany kind of way, they need to make waves and noise with the smallest budget 4/
Case in point with the current Marini ads. Small small boxes have been ticked. The lusty photos have got guys talking. You can tell the ad was retargeting and new customers were kinda secondary. Seeing guys saying it looks like Bangbros sijui Onlyfans 5/
Was okay that was the point, but seeing guys in the ad industry missing the point (I should mention most were AMs, so yeah) was quite disappointing. Shooting in the dark here but I could guess the insight used was "good hair is sexy" and that became the premise of the campaign 6/
Therefore the sexy photos zenye mnaita Bangbros, the concept is simple, good hair is sexy and if you are sexy someone wants to fuck you. Hence the lingerie shots etc. Wanting to see a big logo or big pack or models applying the oil is the mentality that makes clients say... 7/
"Kenyans won't get" or "Guys don't read" or "It's too smart" making ads assume that you're stupid hence the 'Mama Boi-Baba Johnnie' kind of ads. The simple direct cliche monologues. So yeah great work by @Marini_Naturals and I hope more brands even bigger ones get bolder
