One year ago today in Newport, Imam Sis ended his 161 day hunger strike against the isolation of Kurdish leader, Abdullah Öcalan.

Supporting Imam was what spawned this group and inspired many of us in Wales to come closer to our Kurdish friends. 1/ https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-48412885
Imam is safe and well now but the struggle for Kurdish freedom and to protect the Rojava Revolution continues. Öcalan has spoken to his lawyers and family since, but no where near enough. Turkey has invaded Northeast Syria. Their drones murder civilians. 2/
Our thoughts today are with the şehîd who have lost their lives during the hunger strikes and in the defense of the Rojava revolution. In Kurdish,"şehîd namirin" means, "martyrs are immortal". So long as we remember them and struggle in their honour, they have not died. 5/
The hunger strikes were victorious but there is always more work to be done. For example, right now there is a vital fundraiser being run by @CoopMesopotamia to raise money to rebuild vital water infrastructure in Rojava, destroyed by Turkey. 4/ https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/water-for-rojava
The Kurdish freedom movement has touched many of our lives in Wales. It brought us new friendships but, even more valuable, it showed us that another world is possible - in Kurdistan and in Wales. /END
