I've tried to stay out of the whole #dominiccummings thing for two reasons, one because it seems very partisan, and two because I wanted to see what would happen.

1/
I think it's fair to say that no matter what he did, the treatment he had received at the hands of some elements of the media has been disgraceful and unfair. Nobody deserves to be harassed in the street, or to have their house picketed.

2/
Having said that, he is in the wrong here, but the thing that bothers me isn't what you might expect.

3/
The original journey he made to Durham that started all this was definitely ill-advised, and while it may not have broken the law, it certainly was well outside the intent behind the government guidelines.

4/
This is bad, but the government response to this, which seems to have been to 'gaslight' the general public and try to pretend DC was completely reasonable and anyone else would have done the same thing, has understandably gotten a lot of peoples backs up.

5/
For me the biggest issue has been the Barnard Castle trip.

6/
When I was in command and I got a soldier in front of me for a minor infraction, I would always focus on honesty and integrity. If they admitted their.mistake we could move on. If they claimed they didnt do it and there was a mistake we could investigate...

7/
But if they ever produced an absolute whopper of a tale like the 'I drove to Barnard Castle to check my eyesight', then I would have thrown the book at them. What an utterly stupid and obviously tall tale.

8/
The fact we are being fed that and expected to believe it is deeply insulting.

9/
That's my biggest issue with this whole debacle. Nit the initial infractions, but the changed stories, the 'missed' facts until they get presented by the press and the total lack of respect for the general public.

That's the real sacking offence, not a few lockdown violations.
