late night #dnd tip: play something else. anything. i beg of you. like even just once.
pls broaden your horizons it's good for you.
i have very complicated feelings re: dnd right now but i don't have complicated feelings re: the fact that there are hundreds of other games out there waiting for you to discover and even more indie designers who deserve your support.
just try something different. it won't hurt you. it's not going to ruin your fun. the worst thing that happens is you spend a night learning a new system and decide not to continue - no harm no foul besides a little time lost.
dnd had problems re: colonialism and race far before this all happened.

i get that some of you vehemently love dnd - that you feel you owe it something because it brought you friends and fun and a sense of belonging but you dont owe it a damn thing.
im not saying stop playing dnd. many people are in committed games for various reasons and they can't step away. hell i am as well.

what i am saying is that dnd doesn't have to be your end all be all for rpgs.
if you love dnd then that's great. i'm not going to yuck your yum because that's not my place. but i will encourage you to branch out in whatever way possible for you - even if it's just watching/listening to streams/podcasts of different systems at first.
i 100% think that you'll grow as a storyteller with experience in different systems anyway so you'll benefit regardless.
the idea that dnd as an entity has to be defended so hard by the masses is just ridiculous to me. it doesn't need your defense. if anything it *needs* your criticism. if you love dnd so much then take an active stance in trying to change it for the better.
addendum to this thread: please stop telling me all the reasons why you won't/can't stop playing dnd. i simply do not care.

i'm telling you that branching out is good for you, whether you take that advice or not is your choice.
if you're set in your ways then you're going to find every excuse under the sun why you cannot try something else, even just ONCE. be that way - it's your loss, not mine.
