A core tenant of #DezNat is physical health.

Your body is a Temple.

To that end, ween yourself off of Big Sugar.
My wife and I received an InstantPot for our wedding.

We have been using it to make our own yogurt.
One single-serving carton of Yoplait has 19 grams of sugar as well as several unnecessarily artificial ingredients. Not a can of Coke, but better options exist.
We would go through a lot of this stuff adding it into smoothies.
Now though, using three ingredients, we make our own Yogurt.
The resulting ~70oz batches have slightly less sugar and far fewer artificial ingredients.

It’s not nearly as sweet and far better to the taste.

We have found that it’s also less expensive.
Here is a resulting dessert using 1 teaspoon of chopped mixed berries.
This is one small angle of attack that we really like.
Another has been to use baking cocoa instead of Chocolate protein powder in after-workout protein shakes.

Half a banana provides all the natural sugar necessary to sweeten the cocoa powder. We then use unflavored protein powder and the resulting drink is that much healthier.
(The protein powder I was using has 58 grams of sugar PER SERVING! Granted the servings are massive, but still that’s a ton of sugar.)
Flavored versus Unflavored.
The result has been a noticeable palette adjustment.

For example, I used to love me some pink Monster energy drinks; sometimes 2 a day.

I had one last week on a whim and for the first time in several months.

It was disgusting to my taste.
Last Sunday we had dinner with my parents and dessert was Lemon Merengue pie, my dad’s favorite.
My wife had quite the sweet tooth before but now could only handle the tiniest portion.

So things are improving.
Our hope is that not only will these small adjustments improve our overall health, but will translate into having healthier children who enjoy eating healthy food and grow healthier and stronger than their contemporaries.
So much has been made recently of vaccines and masks and social distancing and compulsive sanitizing and hand washing.

Almost nothing has been taught of taking care of your body to begin with.
I’ve seen so many silly people purchase absolute crap food while wearing masks that it’s comical.

Carts full of beer and soda and frozen pizza and chips.

So many are so willingly desperate to stick a needle in their arm but can’t be bothered to exercise and eat well.
Our next goal is to ween ourselves off of Big Ag.

This is a loftier long-term goal.

One aspect will be to hunt for our own meat and fill our freezer with what I kill.
