diabetic burnout needs to be talked about more instead of shaming diabetics who have trouble managing. it’s a 24-7 job we didn’t ask for and can’t leave :^) it’s constant stress. the burnout is REAL and DANGEROUS
ALSO THE MENTAL HEALTH OF DIABETICS NEEDS TO BE MONITORED AT EVERY APT (ESP WITH KIDS)
i can’t describe the numerous breakdowns I had in my endos office bc my mental heath was not a priority: just my a1c
my actual endo; amazing. but when they had student doctors come in, they were awful. treated me like I had done so bad for having trouble. they caused me to cry and just told me to get over it
that was literally SO scarring to me as a child and it STILL affects my own diabetic care now even though my endo is working amazing with me. nobody considered how ADHD affects a diabetic. and then how they treated me led to my chronic anxiety! nice!
so many diabetics develop mental health issues. and that’s a big! issue! stress = rise in cortisol = rise in blood sugars. abled bodies can regulate this. diabetic bodies cannot. long term stress = higher blood sugar. but diabetes = long term stress
add the stress the management of diabetes itself create ON TOP OF the extreme COST of diabetes and the fact that PEOPLE DIE BC INSULIN COSTS TOO MUCH?? how much stress do you want us to have lol
we are preexisting conditions which everybody believes we asked for and caused. so we must suffer?? for a disease that can kill me if I mess up ever so slightly?? like, fuck off if you think I deserve all this
thanks 4 reading my random 1am pre endo appt anxiety induced rant 😘
