the thing i hate most about twitter (and truthfully the entire internet) is how folks will drop a whole TED talk in your mentions refuting/debunking something you didn’t say.
“i love blue!”
“so you’re saying you hate red?”
“no i just love blue”
“so you’re just going to ignore red, orange, yellow & green?”
“i’m not ignoring them”
“so why not say you LOVE them? they aren’t important to you? when will you use your voice for...”
pro-tip: if you’re confused by something that’s been said/tweeted “i’m not sure i understand XYZ” is a simple way to ask for clarification & encourage discussion.

“so you’re saying XYZ” is an ACCUSATION fueled by your perception of what’s been said & shuts down conversation

some other handy ways to ask for clarification & encourage discussion:

“correct me if i’m wrong, are you saying...”
“am i understanding you correctly?”
“can you help me understand how you got here?”
“what makes you say that?”
