a misconception fancops seem to have about people who like or create problematic content is that they think all the content we like or create is filtered through that problematic lens & ymmv but just for me personally, this is not the case.
i& #39;m seeing it now with this TMNT wank where ppl think that there& #39;s something duplicitous or shady about people who can talk about these turtles in a shippy nsfw context but then also talk about them in a platonic non-incestuous sfw context as well.
i& #39;ve also seen fancops express dismay that someone can write fic where two characters have a platonic relationship but then also write fic where they have a sexual relationship as though the latter informs on and taints the former
they don& #39;t understand that you can enjoy multiple takes on characters. you can enjoy or create content where two brothers are just regular brothers & also enjoy content or create content where those brothers fuck & these have little to do with each other.
i& #39;ve written fic where two characters fucked...but i& #39;ve also written gen fic about the same two characters & them fucking in a previous fic had nothing to do with it. i& #39;m happy to talk about shippy & nsfw headcanons but i also have hcs for the same ships if they were platonic.
for most people i know who are into these ships & content, it& #39;s the same. we contain multitudes & aren& #39;t restricted to viewing a ship as either romantic or platonic or sexual. we can view them in different ways depending on our mood & who we& #39;re discussing them with.
this has always been the way things have been since i first got into fandom but it seems with younger people the lines are much stricter -- you either view a ship as platonic or not & there& #39;s no room to view it in multiple ways. it& #39;s a much more black & white way of doing fandom
