Disclaimer: This is my speculation. n needs A LOT work.

I remember there was an interaction online with a 14 year old girl, asking the author of GF how he made Bill so hot. Which he answered that young kids would feel attraction to confident characters because they admire them.
Why would a child admire or idolize such charaters? Why would kids project so much into the characters MORE now than we used to when we were kids?
I believe there's an answer for that, and it all started of how the generation began to be more active online than we used to be.
What does that has to do with anything?
To simplify it, its because they lost their individuality when everything become public.
Everyone can share tastes, and talents, and eventually, the child would lose the small things that made them special inside their own enviorement.
What does this has to do w fanpol?
The search for inviduality and self-worth.
This doesn't ALWAYS apply with kids, but most cases are like that, that not long ago I mentioned how ppl have the misconception that mental illness means to stay young for longer, since they are not+
capable to be independent, they need to be taken care of. This also means that feel 'allowed' to be reckless with their actions because in the end of the day, they are not responsable
So seeing the character where they 'project' as forever young brings a state of panic and denial
'I'm a minor', 'I have depression', 'you are hurting me', 'you are fetishizing us'... they are just excuses to pull in the need to dominaste the conversation and the whole situation.

In the end, they want to still feel the that self-worth that fictional characters gave them,+
as making them feel special by having that or this thing in common, or just changing to be similar to. Nickname, color, and art-style.
Because what made them unique is no longer unique, and it would get worse the longer they age and become 'dull' and just like everyone else
But who knows... I need to actually sit down and research these points with more detail, this is just a line of thought. I'm very open to talk about it tho.
