Maybe I would be a dog person if I hadn’t had to watch white folks value them more than they do the Black human beings over whom they have undue power.

It may have been the 507th time that a dog violated my personal space, only for its white owner to say, “Hey, it’s totally cool, she’s friendly” that ruined doggos for me.

Or maybe that famous picture of the dogs being transported out of an area hit by Katrina on an air conditioned bus while Black folks were still in need of rescuing, that was def a “F*ck y’all and them dogs” moment.

I don’t hate dogs, I like the cute little ones quite a bit. I’d happily sacrifice every single one of them for Black folks to be treated with the same worth though.

Maybe if we could get some dog coronavirus deaths, some doggie police shootings, a dog maternal health crisis, perhaps then our countrymen might have a crisis of conscience.

Some of y’all felt your breath quicken at the thought of that. Of dogs being treated like Black folks. You know I’m not lying.
