I help put on a series of bike races that take place in Central Park every year. I& #39;m a board member of the organization that is permitted to put on said races. I& #39;m often walking into CP before its officially open, in the dark at 4:30. (1/)
I go into the park EXPECTING something like this to happen to me every time. I don& #39;t see too many people THAT early but I try and get the fuck away from anyone that I encounter.
And I& #39;m constantly reciting to myself what I& #39;m going to say to NYPD if they& #39;re curious about the black dude walking into the park early in the morning. Would I be able to flag down a rider to confirm my story? What am I carrying and how suspicious does it look?
Its particularly bad in the early season, when I& #39;m often carrying in 1000 race numbers (and this year a huge stack of timing chips!). I& #39;m thinking "how can I put this all down without them thinking I& #39;m reaching for something..."
None of this is going to change. But I really hope this Amy Cooper lady gets what& #39;s coming to her.
This thread is making its way around (and the super rad @BrooklynSpoke follows me now

AND PUT ON A DAMN MASK!
