BIRTH CONTROL IS GOOD FOR MOST BODIES . Thread . https://twitter.com/kebtfw/status/1264600837369794560
So, let's start with the obvious. All contraception is safer than the risks of pregnancy and childbirth. ALL OF THEM. Pregnancy and unplanned pregnancy cause millions of deaths worldwide.
But what about cancer!

Sorry, not your birth control.
Cervical cancer is caused by HPV, but IUD and IUS users are less likely to get cervix cancer.

Endometrial cancer is less for IUD users as well, and contraception protects the uterus from diseases that cause cancer like PCOS.
"FINE - OVARIAN THEN!"

AGAIN, no, sorry. Pill users who have used more than 10 years have HALF the LIFETIME risk of ovarian cancer.

Even in BRCA (cancer gene) carriers there is protection.
"BREAST CANCER!"

My heart aches for cancer survivors that see their disease flaunted to scare women. Modern low dose pills don't cause breast cancer.

Breast cancer is a complicated disease with many risks, such as no childbearing, not breastfeeding, genetics. Not the pill.
"FINE - BUT THE PILL KILLS PEOPLE."

Sadly there are rare cases where contraception causes complications like blood clots. A DVT happens in about 6-10 per 10 000 women on the pill, and 4 per 10 000 not on it. 1% of clots can be fatal.

BUT
If you only use condoms and factor those pregnancies, with a 30-300 per 10 000 of DVT, there are actually no increased risks of DVT from the pill.
"Screw you, Dr. C. There is an EPIDEMIC of death from the pill."

Multiple studies show that birth control users have lower overall mortality than non users. It's safer than Tylenol (yes - more deaths from acetaminophen overdose per year, half of which are accidental).
Look, use it or don't. It's safe.

Don't tell people what to do with their body. Ever. It's not sound advice from a medical student, it's good ol' fashioned medical paternalism - tale as old as time.
