#killingeve

a very, VERY long and detailed thread:
jamie is working for the 12 & killed kenny.

1st half of this thread is a breakdown of why jamie’s actions/lack thereof prove it’s him.

2nd half is how it relates to the plot as a whole.

3x01: kenny is pushed off roof, yet we do not meet jamie until the very beginning of ep2
3x02:
eve asks bear what it was like to work w kenny at bitter pill. jamie interrupts her immediately saying “if you have any queries about kenny’s work you can come directly to me”

jamie gives eve another ultimatum about kenny’s phone, eve thinks she’s
negotiated a thumb-
cont. 3x02:
drive for handing over his phone but jamie lied to her admitting only after eve gave him what he wanted that the police have the encrypted drive. manipulation at its finest. also insensitive about kenny’s death
3x03:
when eve, mo, carolyn, and jamie meet at the marten house, jamie expresses some questionable anti-establishment sentiments typical of the 12 and their motivations.

when working out who v was in london to kill, jamie let eve do all the talking and stalled her when he could
3x04:
ep4 is the centerpiece of s3.

eve is on the roof w v’s cake on an identical chair next to a chair knocked over w a pool of water reflecting it

the identical chairs indicate the similarities of the situations: the water mirrors the realities of the fallen chair onto eve:
cont. 3x04:
the chair fallen over represents kenny’s death (first by gunshot wound to ear?) to which he was then hurled over the roof just as eve did to the cake that she placed on the red chair, v’s chair (chair symbolism, sound familiar from helene? see more at the end)
cont. 3x04:
jamie meets her on the roof right as eve has a sudden, albeit brief moment of realization watching the cake splatter below. he blows billowing vape smoke which symbolizes him being an ominous player, hidden quite literally by smoke and mirrors
cont. 3x04:
this shot is a representation of the s3 plot.

it exposes everything at once: eve has her back to her biggest threat, the 12, while being one push from death. in btwn them in the middle is kenny’s death (the black chair) & villanelle being the vulnerable red chair.
cont. 3x04:
the dynamics of their confrontation in this scene could potentially reflect the finale: he confronts her in the middle, and she crosses to his side and passes him (heroes don’t get the girl, villains?). it is worth pointing out in case the symbolism extends that deep.
cont. 3x04:
v’s chair being red represents eve’s passion for her, and since it is still standing in the middle, v is vulnerable - eve must be the one to meet/save her there even when eve’s also on the verge of being taken out. e needs to act b4 the 12 knocks v’s chair over too...
cont. 3x04:
jamie & eve bond over their poor “choices”. he admits bad deeds, strategically earns eve’s trust & makes her comfortable to share w him later.
“do not think that you are the only self loathing asshole in the room, ever” potentially a motive for him to be w the 12
cont. 3x04:
eve looking out of the window at bitter pill was easy to misconstrue as regret; but with sadness, she is continuing the beginnings of the dying-on-impact logistical breakthrough that she subconsciously began to have from the moment she threw the cake from the roof.
3x06:
jamie, as he does in other bitter pill scenes, says only what he needs to to encourage eve to do the talking. he asks questions that pull the answers from eve herself. similar to the other bitter pill scenes, the dp shot him out of focus and hidden in the background.
3x07:
jamie smokes his vape again indicating the raid is really just more “smoke and mirrors.” he forewarned bear to not help eve further perhaps as a last chance to separate from the blackhole that is the 12 & villaneve (jamie giving bear the “choice” he wishes he had?)
overall cinematographic thoughts: even jamie’s placement in scenes is noticeably behind the other characters, he wears darker colors, and stands alone which all are indicative of his ulterior motives. even a millisecond of 4th wall breaking (see 3x03)
overall characterization:
what would former MI6 agent eve do? she would ask: what do we know? what could be jamie’s corresponding motives?

the 12 are excellent at taking advantage of weaknesses, exploiting them for organizational gain, and discarding the players once finished.
cont.
from what we can gather thus far, it sounds like drugs were a big part of jamie’s life & the 12 could’ve taken advantage of this to trap & manipulate him like they have done to v. the 12 is not a truly unified organization. they’ll will target their own if one is a threat
cont.
this is what they are now doing with konstantin for stealing the cayman island money in his plan to escape, and by effect villanelle for killing the accountant and his wife even though both were authorized by k who works for the 12.
for killing eve book readers:
could jamie be a parallel to book character richard who along with anton (helene) and lara/charlie (rhian) captured villaneve after their escape. opinions on if this could be a probable finale/s4 scenario?
overall plot implications:

paul wants konstantin dead (since k ordered v to kill the accountant’s wife)

jamie wants eve dead (as a pawn for the 12 since e knows too much)

helene wants carolyn dead (using rhian to slowly kill her team looking into kenny’s death)

and finally
cont.
the 12 and helene now want villanelle dead bc of her 2 known failures in a row

in 3x07 v is intimidated by a black knight’s suit of armor. the black knight comes from arthurian legend in the tale yvain, the knight of the lion (the story is VERY villaneve-esque).

in sum:
cont.
Sir Calogrenant summons the black knight who bests Calogrenant, but the Black Knight is later killed by Yvain when he attempts to complete the quest that Calogrenant failed.

could the characters be parallels?
the black knight - rhian
calogrenant - helene
yvain - villanelle
cont.
also to address the case of the tiny chair: we see chair symbolism multiple times which could represent the immobility of the characters throughout s3. the tiny chair is demeaning to helene who thinks so highly of herself and status.
over the next few days before the finale, i will add some remaining questions to think about and feel free to add your own as well.

i encourage you to look further into yvain, the knight of the lion parallels
