Use of traditional Indigenous knowledge of healing and medicine does not mean rejection of modern medicine. The two are not mutually exclusive.
The problem that white homeopathic “spiritualists” suffer from is thinking that Indigenous persons reject scientific advancements and modern medicine. We CREATED those advancements, they are a part of our traditions and embedded into our ancestral knowledge.
Colonizers to this day are finding “new” scientific breakthroughs that aren’t new at all but really just affirm the traditional medicine that we have used for centuries and repackage them into something more palatable for those who think traditional medicine is primitive.
This is why I have an issue with people like white mommy bloggers who are anti-vaxx and tout “natural” recipes and use of oils to “heal” their children because they cite traditional ways of healing and completely misappropriate them.
In the end all it does it hurt us and reduce Indigenous practices as crude and obsolete which in turn makes us more of a target in the eyes of a colonizer.
Indigenous practices, ways of thinking and traditional knowledge IS science. Most white people are just catching up.
