the flag for many of us away from central america helps us maintain memory/culture/identify community members - that’s ok - but it should be coupled with a critical awareness of how it also represents historical/contemporary state violence against Indigenous & Black ppl in guate
this awareness is especially important rn during a global pandemic, when the aforementioned communities are experiencing heightened structural oppression. small moments like these can have enormous impacts rn when we honestly don’t know a lot about this virus & have no immunity
