Bought my gf a Switch Lite and Pokemon Sword to help her get through quarantine blues. Watching someone who’s never really played video games learn how to play a game from my favorite series is such a fun experience. Posting a thread of highlights below:

She picked Sobble and almost cried when it jumped up into her hands in the cutscene.

Took a minute for her to figure out how super effective moves work. (I’m doing my best to not help her much btw, she wanted to try and get through it on her own as much as she could).

She’s never played video games too much before this, so basic movement in the overworld was challenging at first. She has accidentally run into a lot of pokemon. Picking it up quick though!

She loves Yamper a lot.

Was super nervous to fight the grass gym, but she did it first try!

She now found an NPC that looks kinda like me in the towns and makes sure to talk to them before she leaves to continue the story. “It’s like you’re there for me in the game too!”

Skipping a bit of time: she had to travel through the Wild Area to get to another town. A Linoone darted in front of her bike and she SCREAMED.

Bit later now, she’s at the Fighting gym and suffered her first loss
She is now going to spend some time on an old RPG standby. Grinding.
