Reagan was the wrench in these plans and won the GOP primary. His selection of H.W. Bush as VP was an easy choice for Reagan. Who wouldn’t want a former CIA Director as their VP when running on a platform of defeating the Soviets once and for all?
Reagan - not one to easily be controlled - had to be reigned in and made to heel to H.W. Bush and the CIA of the 1980s, which eventually formed into what is now called The Deep State.
