There's a really excellent sociology paper by Yale professor Elijah Anderson on what that Central Park woman (Amy Cooper) tried to do by calling 911 on the Black birder. It's called "The White Space": https://sociology.yale.edu/sites/default/files/pages_from_sre-11_rev5_printer_files.pdf
This article by @fordm doesn't reference the sociology paper, but it struck me how white people at Yale itself are still utilizing 9-1-1 to remind Black folks how the university is also "a white space": https://twitter.com/fordm/status/1265076802533429250?s=20
"The White Space" was assigned during grad school and I remember almost crying on the bus to class while reading it. This sociology paper thoughtfully explained so many feelings and experiences I had but no previous name for. The power imbalance often felt when you are not white.
