Socialization while #socialdistancing. A thread. I know this is hard. I’m going to share here how we celebrated my daughters 6th birthday to give some examples on how you can still celebrate the important moments that continue to happen as life goes on during this #pandemic.
First we asked my daughter to pick a few friends and we asked each to sign up for a 20 min slot. We asked that anyone who came wear a mask, and asked if anyone was having symptoms to pls decline the invite. We decorated our garage and put tape on the ground #6FtApartAndMasked
When ppl arrived they would first hand sanitize then write in a birthday book (we had mult pens). We had a backdrop for ppl to take pictures. Next stop the piñata where prior to touching the stick u would hand sanitize, then take 3 whacks. Next was socially distanced #hopscotch.
At the end of the 20 min her guest picked up their goody bag and individually box of cupcakes. Air high-fives are how the kids said bye. My daughter was so excited to see a few friends even though they had to stay #6FtApartAndMasked
A few things to share on the kindness of others. A neighbor we had never met was walking by and saw us setting up. She brought over a balloon arch she had used for her daughters #SociallyDistanced bday party #OneGoodThing
Another neighbor heard our daughter was turning 6 and gave us the piñata they had bought for their daughters graduation party that was canceled due to #COVID #OneGoodThing
Friends and family sent videos wishing her happy birthday and we made a video compilation to show our daughter we are all still connected and ppl love her and miss her even though we can’t be together.
I share this bc there is a place for celebrating life’s milestone and exciting events as we navigate through this #pandemic. #COVID19 isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. We need to find ways to continue to find joy and happiness while being responsible.
We must continue to live our lives while adapting to a #NewNormal. We must protect ourselves and our friends and family, neighbors and communities. @somedocs #somedocs
