🐄 Moooo 🐄

I disclaim this economist https://twitter.com/atrupar/status/1264996588834996226
To be clear, economists use the phrase all the time

(I have many such papers)

We also refer to people as units

We also need to talk like normal, empathetic human beings when communicating outside our technical tribe to a nation in grieving
Every discipline/profession uses terms that sound wacky to outsiders but make for more efficient communication
*within* the group

I advocate for eliminating such lingo when talking *outside* the group, when they typically *worsen* communication

Your wonky faves in replies
Sociology refers to romantic couples as dyads

Epidemiology refers to people as vectors

Economists refer to Kevin Hassett as deadweight loss
“Efficiency” is a core term of econ but outsiders do not understand it as we do

Never flies well when talking to educatiors, for example

To normals, efficiency = layoffs, cuts, less money, inhumanity

Better phrasing:

Use our resources to do the best we can for students
Weak instrument
