In prior elections, I absolutely understood the concept of not being willing to vote for a candidate you disagreed with on major issues. I did that. Loudly and proudly. I didn’t vote for either Trump or Clinton in 2016.

But that was before the catastrophe of 3.5 years of Trump.
Here’s a mentality I do not at all understand today:

Me: “Do you view Trump as a threat to the Constitution?”

Voter: “ Absolutely! And immoral and incompetent. A wannabe dictator.”

Me: “Ok. So you’re voting for Biden?”

Voter: “No.”

???
I understand completely voting on your principles. I absolutely do. Still agree with it.

But I’ll suggest that if your principles align with keeping Trump in office for another four years, it might be time to re-evaluate your principles.
To speak to a couple of elephants in the room:

I will always oppose abortion and will fight to protect the unborn regardless of who is in office.

But I value human life at ALL stages. And you don’t get pro-life cred in my book by not caring about the lives of unborn AND elderly
You oppose the barbaric practice of abortion which results in the deaths of nearly a million humans a year? Good! I’m with you on that. Amen!

But you’re okay with taking immigrant toddlers from their parents in order to deter illegal immigration? Uh, NOT good. Sigh. Not good.
You’re for “protecting religious liberty,” whatever that exactly means. Making sure Christians have freedom to worship in the US? Cool! The First Amendment kinda already does that. But you do you.

But you’re not that bothered by the rise of white nationalism? Not cool. Not OK.
When 4 Americans died in Benghazi, you wanted total accountability. Great! I did too. Who screwed up? How do we prevent this from happening again?

But when 100,000 Americans die right here as a result of a series of screw-ups, you don’t.
We don’t know what kind of President Biden would make. But we absolutely do know what kind of President Trump has made and can only imagine how much worse he’d be with more time in office and knowing he’d never have to be accountable to the voters again.
I understand all the reasons why people of faith and people who value human life in the womb don’t vote for Democrats. I really do. I’ve written about it a lot, especially pre-Trump.
But I, for the life of me, don’t understand how a Biblical and pro-life viewpoint aligns with voting or not voting in a way that allows Trump to remain in office one second after noon on January 20th, 2021. I honestly, truly don’t.
The other elephant in the room: for some people, political party loyalty is as sacred as religious faith. Or even more sacred. They consider it part of their identity.

But would you have ever joined a party that pledged total allegiance to Donald Trump in the first place?
