With the possibility of aim assist getting tweaked in tonight’s update, I wanted to take a second to talk about what your expectations should be for the change.

The first thing I want people to realize is that there is almost no chance that any upcoming tweak will completely satisfy the competitive community.

Why? To put it bluntly, the current opinion of aim assist is almost certainly, to some degree, an overreaction. *That’s not to say that aim assist is balanced.* I’m personally in favor of changes to AA, especially ones that adjust how it performs in close range combat.

But, as I talked about on my & @somebodysgun’s podcast last week (shameless plug), there are other factors that play into the current imbalance as well: overpowered weapons (SMGs, AUGs, Drumguns, miniguns), emboldened controller players, lack of counterattack items (traps)

In most of the discussion I’ve seen around the current imbalance in the game, people place close to 100% of the blame on aim assist. In reality, aim assist probably plays a large role in the imbalance, but it is in no way the entire story.

As a result, if you are hoping that a change to aim assist will be a magic fix-all, you will be disappointed. Hopefully, any tweaks will soon be accompanied by other balancing changes as well, and we can move towards an improved game state.

Epic really is in a tough spot here... there’s literally no change they can make that leaves everybody happy. It seems inevitable that people will take to twitter after the tweak pissed off after someone jumps in their box with an smg or triple dinks them with an aug.

I encourage people to take some time after the upcoming changes to develop an opinion on the state of the game w/o piggybacking on top of drama started in the community. Watch clips that people post and think about how other aspects of the game could have played a role.
