Demolition Man (1993): A Thread.

I decided to re-watch this movie recently. Current events related to the corona virus response kept bringing memories of it to my mind. Turns out, there was more here than I was expecting.

"The future isn't big enough for the both of them." 1/9
The movie is about criminals being released into a society where everyone is tracked, controlled and maintains proper social distancing, even during computer aided sexual encounters. Sound familiar? 2/9
Simon Phoenix is the black, ultra-violent criminal. John Spartan is the masculine white cop who was jailed for a mistake that resulted in the deaths of thirty innocent people. Spartan was brought back to capture Phoenix, who seemingly escaped during a parole hearing. 3/9
The first scene to make my jaw drop was this one. John Spartan is introduced to their proper protocols of social distancing, and immediately informs them that they are "out of toilet paper".

Yeah... 4/9
John Spartan erupts when told about the system of tracking put in place to monitor all citizens. He is met with the insult "dirty meat eater".

Eat the bug, John Spartan! 5/9
We learn that Simon Phoenix did not in fact "escape", but was intentionally released. The homosexual, vaguely Jewish elite reveal their plans to use black violence as a means of maintaining their power. 6/9
The elite, however, were surprised by the release of John Spartan, who was naively freed by lower ranking officials in order to deal with the threat of Simon Phoenix. Learning of this causes mild concern. 7/9
The homosexual vaguely Jewish elite blames the rise of black violence on the white man. The compliant female restrains the white man's impulse to defend himself. The elite mocks Spartan as a relic, a temporary problem getting in the way of progress. "Your past is dead." 8/9
After an hour and ten minutes the movie devolves into standard Hollywood nonsense.

I'll leave you with a few scenes that while probably just coincidence, still seem significant: "I'll give you a haircut", Phoenix mimicking Chinese, and Spartan's Chinese inspired clothing. 9/9
