Okay let's do this. African gods and mythical creatures. A thread. The gods here are the main gods of the Orisha from Nigeria. It was the most organised pantheon I could find.
Yemoja. She is a major water deity of Afrocuban origins. Popularly known as "Mami Wata" she is one of the main seven Orishas. She is the goddess of oceans and lakes.
Orunmila. He is the African god of wisdom, prophecy and destiny. He is also known as Orunla. He carried IFA (The wisdom of Olodumare) to earth
Obatala. He is the African god of the sky and is seen as the creator of all humanity brought to life by the breath of Olodumare as well as the father of all Orishas.
Oshun. She is the African goddess of love, purity, sensuality and fertility. She is one of the most powerful Orishas and possesses human traits like vanity and jealousy.
Sango. The African god of thunder. He is also known as Jakuta and is perhaps the most popular Orisha.
Ogun. He is the African god of metal, war and rum. He is also known as Ogou and is worshipped in other Hispanic groups.
Yes he looks like Dr. Facilier. Eshu. Also known as Elegba. He is the African god of mischief. He is shy but can be very cruel. He is seen as the master of all languages and a chief messenger.
Abada. Or an African unicorn. It has two crooked horns which act as an antidote to poison. It is described as a small donkey with the tail of a boar. It is also known an Arase.
Kishi. The two faced demon. It is a creature with a human face and the face of a hyena at the back of its head. It is portrayed as very handsome and uses it to charm victims. Mostly female.
Mokele Mbembe. It is a creature which looks like a part hippo, part elephant. It has dark grayish skin and a very long neck. It dwells in swampy areas.
Sasabonsam. It is a vampire like creature of Akan origins. It has long teeth and dark fur. It mostly hides in trees and preys on unsuspecting hunters.
Aziza. It is an African fairy. They live on forests and are friendly to hunters and lost people. They provide good magic and are said to live in silk trees and ant hills.
Jengu. It is a water spirit that takes the shape of a beautiful mermaid. Plural of Jengu is miengu. It lures stubborn children who disobey their parents and drowns them.
Ninki Nanka. It looks like an African dragon. It lives in the swamps of West Africa. It is seen as very majestic and wise.
Nommo. They are deities worshipped by the Dogon people of Mali. They are usually described as amphibious and hermaphroditic. They are referred to as "Masters of water" as their name directly translates as "to make one drink."
Obayifo. African witches. They are described as having shifty eyes and hunt mostly in the night. They are obsessed with food and possess people. They are said to emit a phosphorescent light from their armpits.
Yumboes. They are the fairy like spirits of the dead. They are often seen with silver hair or skin and white clothes. They are about two feet tall and love under hills. They come out at midnight to dance.
Buda. They are shape shifting man of Ethiopian origins. They have the power to change into hyenas. Buda is believed to be a power held by people in specific social groups.
Adze. It is a blood sucking demon of Ewe folklore. It often possesses people in the shape of a firefly. Upon capture, it transforms into a humanoid creature.
