the story of how i hid a toy pufferfish in all of my youtube videos // a thread
this is jeff. since 2015 i have hidden him in every single video i have posted.
although many of my old videos aren't public anymore, he was still placed in my old content, too. here's a video from 2015 of my buddy holding him for a sketch comedy video we were working on:
only my close friends knew about jeff until my last vlog where i revealed him to the world. but i dropped so many hints and clues along the way.
i made a book my sophomore year of high school. it wasn't my proudest project, but i dropped some clues inside the book about jeff.
'jeff is coming' can be found throughout the book
he even makes a little cameo towards the end of the book:
in my vlogs, every time there was a credits sequence, jeff was always credited at the end.
the phrase 'jeff is coming' was also a recurring easter egg when i was making youtube videos
if you slow down the outro on my old videos, you can see 'jeff is coming' hidden in the animation too
since i was 15, i knew i wanted to keep all of this a secret until my last youtube video. jeff was never meant to be a gateway into recognition or anything along those lines. my younger self just enjoyed bringing more depth into my videos.
my younger self took inspiration from big directors who did the same thing. quentin tarantino has used the same concept with his fictional cigarette brand called "red apple," along with pixar, placing the pizza planet truck in all of their projects.
and that's it. chances are there are more hidden easter eggs in my old videos that i've just forgotten about. go try to find some of them for me if you'd like. hope you enjoyed this thread! #jeffiscoming
