blues brothers rewatch
first stupid car stunt: precisely 9 minutes in
the first time I watched it I was trying to figure out what was so good about it, now I KNOW and can just enjoy it
also it's very thematic for Good Omens month. fast cars. nuns. music. sunglasses
the shot up the stairs in the orphanage is just gorgeous
honestly it being something that couldn't ever happen is *better* for a film like this
*is thrown down stairs, same shot again*
everyone in the church dance scene is awesome
it also serves as the announcement that Yes, This Is A Musical, Strap In
first car chase starts: 25 minutes in
The subtitler has picked up *every* music track, which I really appreciate. They are essential.
you don't open with a car chase through a shopping centre. it should be impossible to write a movie that holds up for another hour
what the fuck was the budget on this thing and how much of it did they spend on police cars
oh this track was in a terrible racing game I used to have! this is probably why!
[suddenly Carrie Fisher]
Elwood puts a blanket over Jake, which is somewhere on the 'acceptable expressions of repressed masculine love' list
the exploding hotel room is deliberately silly but do we kill anyone in this film? I forget. maybe some Nazis.
restaurant scene. we have entered a room where chaos is not happening yet. this is always a bad sign
this is called the Coffin Henry ('for sum money I wont follow yu home')
fuckin cops protecting fuckin nazis
I knew that guy looked familiar! It's the really dreadful judge out of Boston Legal!
we ALL hate Illinois nazis
splosh
speaking characters in this film average out at Ludicrously Famous
Boston Legal rewatch might be a good idea if lockdown goes on for much longer.
four fried chickens (and a Coke)
I like that they spend this whole song sitting at the counter like lemons
but the deadpan mall chat during the car chase might be my favourite
and your obscure Good Omens link is: this hair salon is called Curl Up & Dye, a pun also used by Julia Petley
tried to count the people dancing in the Ray Charles scene, gave up
every scene is my favourite except for every other scene
they set up that fucking propane tank like 'this will be important later' and then Carrie Fisher turns up *immediately* with a flamethrower
Nazis do not know about baseball.
the subtle difference between being bottled because they like you and being bottled because they don't
Stand By Your Man with the hand gestures lmao
alas alas all that country music and no money
"everything's gonna be all right" [country band arrives in RV]
we are... 1:20 in, and now being chased by Everybody (you'd think) (actually there will be more people)
I love that they don't even pretend that stunt where the cop car flips the RV makes sense. Fuck it, what's physics
conscript the orphans!
the petrol station has run out of petrol
here we go :D
seriously, the opinionated subs are So Good
How did Carrie Fisher get in - never mind
'why don't we ever meet anyone who can shoot straight?' -- The Cat
Elwood just lying in the mud listening like 'oh well this explains a lot'
for the common good, I must now kill you, and your brother
oh, it's gorgeous
Ye Powerful Removal Of Ye Sunglasses, about which my fandom knows everything.
Probably would have taken her machine gun, but then, she has so many other options
You start with your second best car chase, you end with your best one
people who have now been in the river: the Nazis; the country band
there go a couple of dozen more police cars
nobody's watch must survive
of course you find out at the *start* that Elwood has got all these speeding tickets...
their :| expressions kill me
there are still *so many police cars*
ENTER THE NAZIS (AGAIN)
*Nazis returned directly to Hell by magic Blues Brothers physics*
RIP the Dodge
like, I don't know if that's a *direct* inspiration for the death of the Bentley in the TV show
cos it doesn't happen quite that way in the book - but I'm gonna say it is, cos it pleases me
Yes yes yes the SWAT team who can only say Hut <3 the Dean would love this film
all we need is 9 billion extras and a tank
sub: ["SWAT team continues to 'hut'"]
sub: ["....hut, hut, hut, hut, hut..."]
and a helicopter
oh look even the horse guys got here
the mob contemplating the lift for a split second before charging up the stairs
WE DID IT :D
I'm not sure if the moral is 'to thine own self be true' or 'FUCK cop cars'
it's a masterpiece, in the truest sense
Fuckin Netflix won't play the full end credits, wants to trail Ocean's Thirteen instead. how DARE
this was a good decision. everyone should watch this film, often.
