I'm struggling to put into words how baffling it is to see the level of reverence some of the people on this website get. In this sphere especially--it's become pretty apparent to me how cults get started.
Those, who are so desperate for answers, crowding themselves around charismatic personalities, seemingly unaware that they have the exact same information at their disposal if they only just looked for it
There are no canonical interpretations of whatever you're looking for, I assure you. The only universal truth is that there isn't one, and treating purple emoji twitter accounts as idols will only wind up disappointing you in the end
I'm reminded one someone I knew who was convinced that Sunny and Miya were going to harm her in some way if they found out that she was wasn't white--paranoid schizophrenia combined with some kind of racial inferiority complex because of eye-chart shitposting
How does someone become so impressionable? I can't seriously believe that everyone like this is mentally ill in some way, it doesn't make sense to me. Is this a natural human behavior? A deadly cycle of approval-seeking?
You're far more likely, in my experience, to just irritate the person you're claiming to look up to by acting like this. The ones who revel in it are dangerous and will likely try to take advantage of you in some way. You do not benefit from this mindset at all!
You will not find secret knowledge here, not in the tweets of charismatic users, not in the myriad of books or papers or essays they link or reference, you'll only find it introspectively. You cannot be taught what you're looking for. You cannot have your hand held for it
The only thing you're going to get with this mindset, this obsessive attachment to people who are likely just a few years ahead of your personal journey, is disappointment.
This might be it. A lack of confidence. A feeling that you cannot possibly be as intelligent or introspective or whatever as people who have sizable followings. Even if they did have the answers, this meekness is just too unappealing. https://twitter.com/OdysseusLaertid/status/1265001999021617152
These people are usually pretty smart, too. They're not idiots--idiots are incredibly confident. It's the peak of that curve, the intellectual summit, where you think being at the top of the mountain would give you the best view of the world
But when you're up there, you're too far away from the ground. You can't make out things in the distance. It's blurry, too small. Only when you get to the other side, when you can see things up close, for what they are, can you truly begin to understand
Do not let other people look at the world for you. You have your own senses, your own mind, your own ability to reason. Every time someone teaches you something, no matter how close they are to the subject, you're playing a game of Chinese whispers
