#MyFFLStory
When I was 15, in 2012, I had just started getting into politics and decided to make an anonymous twitter account called Colorado Pearls. I retweeted clothes, brands and most importantly, politics. I grew up in a pretty liberal area and I didn’t know of anyone at my
high school that was a republican. I was feeling pretty alone in my views. My anonymous twitter helped with that. One day I was scrolling through twitter and found a newer account called Future First Lady. It was love at first sight. They had articles and merchandise made by real
life Republican girls around my age. I started reading these articles religiously and remember the day that the name changed from Future First Lady to Future Female Leader. I still have my first shirt that I got from FFL. A navy tee shirt that I begged for for Christmas
I wore it on the first day of the spring semester that year and was bullied mercilessly for it. It went back in the closet for a while but I stayed active on my anonymous twitter, eventually garnering over 10,000 followers.
I found security and peace in the fact that I could be a Republican privately and make Republican friends anonymously this way. Until my junior year of high school, when my student body president somehow found out about my account and began cyber bullying me.
The cyber bullying turned into in-person bullying, and he got all of his friends in on it. He even turned my beloved theatre department against me. I was told I was no longer welcome to do school plays and musicals because my beliefs didn’t align with that of the theatres.
I deleted my account and made the decision to stay off twitter until college. My senior year was a bit better, but I still decided that going to school far away would be better for me. The next year I moved to Alabama, found the pro-life club and YAF chapters on campus
And finally became comfortable being myself. I bought more FFL merchandise and wore it proudly on campus. I confided in many FFL women and other conservatives on campus and my confidence continued to grow. Finally, at the end of my sophomore year of college, I took the plunge
and applied to be an @FFL_of_America cabinet member. While I’ve only been a cabinet member for 2 years, I’ve been following FFL since the beginning, and I truly believe that this organization helped form me into the woman I am today. Confident, educated and secure.
Without the kindness and warmth of the women who didn’t even know the girl behind Colorado Pearls, I never would have had the confidence to embrace my political ideology, and major in Political Science. I certainly wouldn’t have had the courage to run for secretary, and later,
president, of my campuses pro-life club. I would have had the courage to volunteer at a pregnancy center, intern in Washington DC, and speak about my beliefs with my liberal friends and family members.
I have grown so much as a person since 2012, when I was hiding behind a screen, terrified of what my peers would think of me. That’s due in large part to @amandasowens1, @CeeJayCraig, @AryssaDamron and a number of other women I saw proudly proclaiming conservative views
I’m so proud to be associated with them and with @FFL_of_America. They gave me a voice. They inspired me. They showed me how to never back down. They helped me refine my views and my message. They helped make me into a woman that 15 year old me would be so proud of.
Now, as a cabinet member, they pray for me, support me, believe in me, uplift me, correct me when I’m wrong, love me through everything. I’m so thankful for #MyFFLStory and to be a member of an organization that I could never even begin to repay.
I’m so grateful for @amandasowens1, @AryssaDamron, @CeeJayCraig and all the other FFL ladies, who I will forever view as role models. I’m grateful to have @RoseLaoutaris and @Fleeener as FFL mentees. FFL may just be a small business with a big dream, but they support so many
women in so many ways.
Small businesses need your support, now more than ever. And FFL is such an important small business to support. Today, everything on our website is Buy One, Get One. Buying from our website is an awesome way to support conservative women. Women like 15 year old me, that needed
a group of women like this one to fully come into my own. Think of the young women in your life, and how much an organization like FFL could help them, and consider making a purchase today.
I never would have even dreamed of writing articles like this when I was in 9th grade. They were the types of articles that I loved to read, but could never put my name on, for fear of being bullied. I was so concerned with what other people thought of me. https://futurefemaleleader.com/favorite-disney-princesses-ranked-least-conservative/ref/19/
