Welcome to my second thread on the masked villain, the metal faced fellow that been ripping flows since New York Plates were ghetto yellow, MF DOOM.
In this thread i’ll be ranking and rating every one of his official solo/collaboration projects.
10. Key To The Kuffs - More decent compared to the Follow Up Bookhead, DOOM appears more here and i feel like he gives a little bit more here too. Unfortunately i feel like most of the production on this tape limits DOOM a lot. Really mid but there’s a few highlights.
6.0/10.
9. Mistery Box - A Mixtape, there’s not too much focus here, but it’s still a great project. Closer to the end of his career, DOOM shows that he still does it and brings a more consistent solo project. Not too many lows but the highs aren’t really high.
7/10.
8. CZARFACE MEETS METALFACE - Hard instrumentals and flows from both. Expected more from this project but this is another case where i feel like they didn’t gave us everything they could from front to back. Some great moments like on Peddle With Metal and Phantoms though.
7/10.
7. Mouse & The Mask - Decent project, some good beats from Dead Mouse and some great rhymes from DOOM. Nothing too impressive. A little bit disappointing considering is DOOM on his prime but overall the project is enjoyable.
7/10.
6. Venomous Villain - Smaller project and some really great tracks, some more ok moments. A good album though not the best for MF DOOM in his prime. It’s smaller and it doesn’t have too much history behind it. Ode To Road Rage is a stand out in this album.
8/10.
5. Born Like This - Here DOOM switches the usual jazzy style for harder hitting beats and got some more famous features. It’s great, it goes hard even though it has not as much focus as his earlier projects and it’s a great showcase of his abilities.
8.5/10.
4. MM...FOOD - The food themed album. The creativity and wordplay that went into creating this album just proves to you why he’s hold to such a high standard. The story continues on the skits while DOOM provides rhymes about daily things of his life with food wordplay.
9.5/10.
Vaudeville Villain - Another DOOM project under the name of Viktor Vaughn. A great example of his creativity, being able to create a whole character separated from MF DOOM. As always distroying it lyrically like on The Drop and Open Mic Nite 1 & 2. A piece of DOOM lore.
9.5/10.
2. Madvillainy - What can i really say that hasn’t been said? Madlib’s production fits for DOOM going harder on some track and using some really smooth flows on some Jazzier beats. They have some perfect chemistry and i love how DOOM is able to interact with the beats here.
The themes about being too old in rap, how they met, personal cuts like Strange Ways and Fancy Clown and a career defining cut with All Caps. Everything is laced together trough some beautifully structured rhymes. This is him and Madlib on their primes giving their best.
10/10.
Operation Doomsday - This is MF DOOM presenting himself to the rap game. A great shown off of his beat making ability too. Some of his more jazzy instrumentals pared with some really great wordplay and creativity, having some of his more personal moments here. +
The First album after going trough a rocky period in his life, having lost his brother, being locked up and getting kicked out from his label a few years prior from the release. He came back with a new persona and focused and dropped one of the greatest debuts i seen. +
Some genius concepts too, from the Storyline showing why DOOM uses a mask, the drug fiend themes on Rhymes Like Dimes, the references to his time in jail. Great Flows and some of his best rhymes to this day.
10/10.
