Eugene is fortunate in that the South Hills really are to the south. Meanwhile people tried to tell me I grew up on the South Side of San Antonio when I could WALK to downtown, if I chose. https://twitter.com/goldisacks/status/1264654913629544450
A small bookstore opened in my neighborhood "because the South Side doesn't have any." Bruh, you're 5 miles from SW Military Dr & less than a mile from the Tower of the Americas. You're downtown.
Tbf, when I was growing up, there really weren't any bookstores south of, like, Woodlawn, which is north of the Tower. The easiest Half-Price Bookstore for me to get to was still 45 minutes by bus.
Required reading in school meant hoping the public library had enough copies for you and 2,000 of your classmates across 8 high schools in SAISD alone.
Wow, I got nostalgic on this thread.
