On Facebook today, I was seeing some threads among lefty friends about whether to vote for Biden or sit out/vote 3rd party if you're not in a swing state. Some said that since their vote didn't matter, it was okay not to vote for Joe. So here's a thread on why your vote matters.
First, it's entirely possible that Trump will claim, if he loses, that the results are fraudulent. The bigger his margin of defeat in the popular vote, the harder it is for him to make that case. So, your vote actually is integral to kicking Trump out. 2/x
But this election is also about the future. The more Trump loses by, the more pressure the Republican Party will feel to move away from Trumpism toward something slightly more palatable. That's a significant risk reduction for future campaigns. 3/x
Furthermore, let's talk about the Electoral College. Doing away with it should be a key Democratic goal. The larger the discrepancy between the popular vote and the electoral college results, the more momentum we have towards that goal. 4/x
I don't believe in trying to shame anyone for feeling bitterly disappointed about the outcome of the primary, or being tempted not to vote if they're not in a swing state. What I do want to say is: your vote matters a ton anyway. So please, no matter where you live, vote for Joe.
