1.) What is this? Take a good look! The very fibers of THE STAR SPANGLED BANNER ! Why these colors don't run! Here's my thread..

We all know the colors of the American flag. But how did those colors physically come to fly on flagpoles and inspire national anthems? When people in the flag's era wanted to put colors on fabric, the answer came down to dye. Stay with me Here is The original

3.)Natural dyes were used for the broad stripes and bright stars that Francis Scott Key saw so gallantly streaming at the Battle of Baltimore in September 1814. Fabrics would have been pre-dyed.

4.)  Mary Pickersgill, her two nieces, her daughter, and her indentured servant began work to create the Star-Spangled Banner flag.

5.) Indigo, was introduced to the Americas from across the ocean. In the early 1700s, and dyed wool was used for the starfield background ! A deep, rich blue color, is one of the oldest and is created from the leaves of the plant Indegofera tinctoria.

6.) White Undyed cotton was used for the 15 Stars and white stripes!

7.) Madder root dye, bringing in the bold red stripes signifies hardiness and valor!

8.)These dyes were mixed with mordant, metallic salts to help set and intensity protect the color from fading... FIRST boat to land on Utah beach D DAY! FLEW THIS FLAG

9.)The dyes used for these colors on the original Star-Spangled Banner hold true today, but I offer another reason these colors dont run...VALOR, HEROISM, PRIDE, HONOR, DUTY SACRIFICE

10.) As @POTUS's words echo today in his #MemorialDay speech ...the sacrifices of many are 'woven into the fibers' of that each AMERICAN FLAG flown today.

11.) The Last Full Measure of Devotion given by every soldier, from LEXINGTON and CONCORD, to D Days storm on foreign beaches, and the sands of War in the middle East . These colors are strengthened with their love of Country and Home..of the promise of FREEDOM ...
